A fiery tragedy in the busy Thai streets.

The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, is known all over the world to have a chaotic traffic, with cars, motorbikes, bicycles, tuk-tuks, buses… and trains.

Horrific images have gone viral online showing a crash between a freight train and a public bus in Bangkok, that is estimated to have killed at least eight people and injured dozens of others.

BBC reported:

“Police and rescue officials said the collision triggered a fire that engulfed the public bus on Saturday.

Several nearby vehicles were also hit during the incident, prompting firefighters and rescue crews to be dispatched. Teams worked to pull injured victims from the wreckage as fire crews contained the blaze.

The fire has been brought under control, with crews now working to cool the area, vent gas and continue to search for victims.”

Today’s incident took place near Makkasan train station, in the center of Bangkok.

“Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat said initial reports suggested the bus had stopped on the tracks amid heavy traffic, preventing crossing barriers from closing. The train carrying containers was not able to stop in time, he added.”

Associated Press reported:

“Footage of the moment of the crash shared on social media showed a line of vehicles had stopped at a railway crossing when a cargo train struck an orange bus. The impact also dragged several nearby vehicles along the tracks before the bus was engulfed in flames. Several motorcycles and their riders were also seen being thrown onto the road after the collision.

Later videos showed a group of rescuers entering the charred bus after the flames were brought under control.

Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat told reporters at the crash site that all the bodies were found on the bus. He said it was still unclear how many people were on board.”
